Introduction

The Library of China University of Political Science and Law is the earliest university library which focusing on political and legal information established in China after the founding of New China. Its predecessor was the library of Beijing University of Political Science and Law established in 1952, and it has been developed since 1978. Now it is the director of the National Collaborative Committee of Libraries of Political Science and Law Colleges, and a member of China Higher Education Literature Guarantee System.

1Library Building

The library consists of two branches, Haidian Campus Library and Changping Campus .Haidian Campus Library has two premises, B3 of the Research Building and the new library on the west side of the Library Complex, and the Changping Campus Library has two premises, Wenyuange and Fayuange,respectively. The library adopts the open management mode of borrowing, reading and collecting, and the books in the library collections of both campuses can be borrowed and returned through the library network resources, which can realize 24-hour service every day throughout the year. The library providing an important place for cultural exchange, education, teaching and scientific research for teachers and students of the university.

The total construction area of Haidian Campus Library is about 26,800 square meters, of which the new library contains one floor underground and six floors above ground, totaling seven floors. As of September 2022, the collection of the Haidian Campus reached 1,951,000 volumes, including 653,000 species and 993,000 volumes in the new library; 228,000 species and 958,000 volumes in the research building; 2,040 seats are available to readers, including more than 1,700 seats for reading and more than 300 distributed in the seminar area, multi-function hall, silent cabin, reading booth and other areas Seats. The functional layout focuses on rationalization, process, modernization and intelligence, with distinctive regional divisions, setting up single training rooms, open seminar areas, multi-functional halls, multi-person seminar rooms, art appreciation halls, etc. The cultural gallery is currently under construction and will soon be open to readers. Modern service facilities such as self-checkout machines, seat reservation systems, robots, waterfall electronic circulation systems, reading booths, and silent training rooms have been installed in each area of the library, and sockets and lighting lamps have been installed on the desks of the reading areas according to readers' needs and reading habits, providing readers with a modern, comfortable, and intelligent reading space. The new library of Haidian Campus is open 7 days a week, 14.5 hours a day to all students and teachers.

The total area of Wenyuange and Fayuange of Changping Campus Library is more than 13,000 square meters. As of September 2022, the library resources of Changping Campus total about 765,000 volumes, including Wenyuange: 250,000 volumes and Fayuange: 515,000 volumes; Fayuange can provide more than 1,380 reading seats for readers, and Wenyuange can provide more than 300 reading seats for readers. Electronic reading is managed in a decentralized manner, with about 185 computers distributed in various areas of the library for free use by readers. The reading room is open 98 hours per week, and the study room is open 112 hours per week.

2. Classification standard and shelving system of books and documents

The library mainly adopts the Chinese Library Classification (CCL) and the Library Classification of the People's University of China (NPC). Adopts the classification and shelving system of the NPC for books collected before 2002, and the CCL for books collected after 2003.

3Collection resources

As of December 2021, the university library and the resource rooms of all departments have about 2,683,800 volumes of paper literature, 2,433,400 volumes of electronic books and 1,340,200 volumes of electronic journals. At present, there are dozens of electronic resources available for teachers and students to search and use (any computer within the IP range of the campus network can directly use the library's electronic resources without user name and password).

Full-text periodicals: CNKI series; NPC Reprographic Newspaper and Journal Information Database; Super Star Periodicals; Huayi Academic Literature Database (Human Society Edition); JSTOR Western Overprint Library; SAGE Periodical Database; EBSCO Database, etc.

Multimedia databases: New Oriental Multimedia Learning Library; TV news information teaching and research database (TVMVDB).

Legal databases: Westlaw Next database, HeinOnline database, Lexis Advance legal database, Beck-Online legal database, Kluwer Arbitration arbitration library, Japanese legal database TKC-law library, Yuanzhao Yuetan legal knowledge database, Beida Law Treasure ( China Law Search System), De Gouyte de grammatica eBook, etc.

In 2019, the library added a new discovery system platform to provide readers with a "one-stop" search service.
